Travel Consultant for English speaking markets

Jose Villa

Hi! My name is Jose. I’m working as a Travel Consultant for English speaking markets. My amazing journey to Hurtigruten Estonia started because of Covid-19. I was living in Colombia and the lockdown there was just too hard to take, so I came to Estonia, initially for 3 months, but I’m still here and loving it. The vibe at the Hurtigruten team is simply perfect for me. The warmth of these people and the quality of our working relationships makes it very easy to stay and I really enjoy the sense of humour our team has. Laughter and work go hand in hand here.

I am impressed by the freedom and trust that are shared throughout the company between employees. The feeling that you can grow and develop is something special and not easy to find nowadays. At the same time, you can be truly who you are and do your work without losing your personality in the process. The only thing you really need from the beginning is common sense and the ability to analyse. These kinds of traits are very important here.

I personally feel that I gain new knowledge about the world, geography, cultures, trends and people here every day. I’ve also developed my communication skills and that’s a big plus for me. The learning process never stops here. And what’s also really motivating is the idea of making people’s dreams come true. Listening to their excitement over the phone is just priceless and makes me feel good every day.

Data Analyst

Anna-Liisa Koort

Hi! My name is Anna-Liisa and I’m working at Hurtigruten Estonia as a Data Analyst. When I first started my career path in Hurtigruten, I knew I had a passion for finding solutions and optimizing processes. This made me believe that Work Force Management position suggested by a friend would be perfect for me. As my journey here began and as I grew as a person, I noticed my love for analytics. That love was confirmed when I started studying Information Science at university. Soon my interest was noticed in Hurtigruten, and I was offered my current position in the company.

One of the main reasons why I love this job is that through my work I’m able to help and interact with so many teams. I help my colleagues get their job done, deliver the best possible results and make our clients happy. This way I can impact the entire company.

Data Analysts’ role here is exciting. I rarely have two similar working days. Every day there are new challenges, which allows me to continuously develop my problem solving and critical thinking skills. Our company and my team are organized and effective, but we do have a lot of fun also, especially when we get together outside of the office to socialize. We’re like a family.

As an employer, Hurtigruten Estonia values teamwork and flexibility. Although we have a really nice and relaxed office environment, we can work from home as well. This great work-life balance allows me to do boxing, running, gym, cultural programs and self-education in addition to work, which is important to me.

In terms of a long professional career, I strongly believe that Hurtigruten Estonia has a lot to offer you.

Sales Operations Manager

Andrew Rogerson

Hi! I am Andrew, Sales Operations Manager. I applied for a specific role within Hurtigruten, and upon getting this role, I had already fallen in love with Hurtigruten.

The company culture is one of the most welcoming cultures I have seen in my career. You can wake up in the mornings knowing that you will be able to have fun with your colleagues, work on challenges together and share success.

My role requires a good working relationship with my colleagues, a sense of humour, discipline, and can display organizational skills. Our team is responsible for planning and executing training and development of 180+ staff. Hearing that we have been able to teach people new skills and know that we are developing people professionally and personally makes me smile every day.

Working here is the definition of having a good work/life balance. As a parent, I know I can work either from home or from the office, depending on whether I have to be home with my children or in the office with my team.

IT/OT Infrastructure & Platforms Operations Manager

Gerda Tilk

My name is Gerda and I started my career in Hurtigruten approximately 12 years ago. I decided to try something completely new in my life. Fresh out of high school, I didn’t know what to study, so I decided that I would go and work for a year or two until I figured out what I would like to be in the future. That plan turned out to be a years-long learning path that has given me many opportunities, and now I’m working as an IT/OT Infrastructure & Platforms Operations Manager.

The thing I love the most about working in Hurtigruten is the possibility of making things better by improving our processes and the way we work as a team or a company. Despite a situation where we face a challenge with geographical distance and time zones, we have a good atmosphere in our team.

Sales Delivery Manager

Joulian Valizadeh

Hi! My name is Joulian and I work at Hurtigruten Estonia as a Sales Delivery Manager.

Since joining Hurtigruten in 2017, my journey has been both diverse and rewarding. I started as a Travel Consultant, then progressed to Team Leader, and now manage the German market in Tallinn. Choosing to work at Hurtigruten has been one of the best decisions of my life.

What I love the most about my work is the environment and the team that I am surrounded with. Having people with a positive vibe nearby is truly motivating and uplifting. Another significant factor for me is the product itself, which is absolutely fascinating. Promoting a company, which is sailing in the most remote areas in the world and at the same time being as ecological and green as possible is, in my opinion, one of the best jobs that you can have.

After being in this company for more than 4 years, I have learned that at Hurtigruten Estonia things can change daily. There is no routine and the work doesn’t get boring. Every day brings new challenges and teaches you to be more flexible and more creative.

One of the most important benefits at Hurtigruten is the opportunity for personal and professional development. The company places a strong emphasis on helping employees grow their skills and advance their careers. This focus on development is one of Hurtigruten’s core values and something I deeply appreciate.

In addition to promoting and selling an exceptional product, we also have the chance to travel and experience it firsthand. This unique opportunity allows us to truly connect with what we are promoting and feel like explorers ourselves, being part of something bigger.

We have a strong bond within our team, and we support each other in every situation. Whenever a newbie is coming into the team, we all do our best to make them feel welcome and comfortable. Outside of work, we regularly try to organize team events, for example, game nights or bowling.

I believe that you will love working with us at Hurtigruten Estonia. Our supportive culture, focus on development, and the unique opportunities we offer make it an amazing place to grow your career and enjoy the journey.

French market Senior Travel Consultant

Mathys Javelaud

Hi! I’m Mathys, a Senior Travel Consultant in the French market. I consider myself to be an active person. I love football, camping and disc golf … and also cars.

I joined Hurtigruten Estonia five ago when I was searching for a job to settle in Tallinn. This opportunity was perfect for me. I speak English and Estonian outside of work and at home, but at work I can keep speaking my mother tongue – French.

I like contacting clients and making their dream voyage come true. It is always a pleasure to go to work and I’m truly lucky to be part of such an amazing team. We constantly explore new possibilities and ideas, which can be about the company and how to make the work easier and better, as well  about new opportunities to advance your career.

I have learned many things while working here, but especially that I have to be really precise in my work. A simple mistake can disrupt the client’s voyage. So, I’m always careful and pay attention to detail.

Team Leader

Nils Waage

Hi! My name is Nils and I’ve been working at Hurtigruten Estonia for three and half years now. I started as a Travel Consultant, but by now I´m working on the position of Team Leader. Coming here was like an adventure to me as I had no previous experience with this country. But since I’m an extrovert and love meeting new people and getting to know different cultures I decided to come.

I’ve had a ton of fun staying here. At Hurtigruten Estonia, we have a supportive team with whom we’ve become good friends. A great team and a supportive atmosphere are the reasons I’d definitely recommend working here. If you are patient enough and can multitask then it’s a place for you.

When I think of our slogan “Explore with us” then for me, it means to find your potential and if you are a person who has a drive to constantly improve and love to grow as a person every single day, then Hurtigruten is a great place where to work. The job is challenging as there are many unknown problems that may come up during the day, but it’s never boring nor too frustrating. I am happy I came here.

Inventory Analyst

Stanislav Zabashtin

Hi! I am Stanislav and I work at Hurtigruten Estonia as an Inventory Analyst. I’ve been working at this company for 15 years already. Since I studied Hotel Management, working at Hurtigruten Estonia was something that I was looking for.

During these 15 years, I have grown, learned and seen a lot. We have had different offices, different booking systems, new colleagues, whole departments and leaders have changed, new ships have been delivered etc. Observing and being a part of all that, it’s something that stays with me and is written in my work and life history forever. As an Inventory Analyst I mainly work with SeaWare program, Jira and Outlook, also using plenty of Excel, PowerBI and other programs that help me gather and analyse the data. Most of all I enjoy managing and optimizing ship capacity for departures and working with group requests.
We have a great team. As our Revenue Department is located not only in Tallinn, but also in Oslo and Hamburg, it brings an interesting diversity and different work approach. We also have truly the BEST summer days in our company. This is something that I´m waiting for the whole year. Personally, I have participated at every single one of them and they are always amazing.

And if I had to say what I love about our company and what our slogan “Explore with us” means to me, it would be that we as a cruise company never stop. We move forward no matter what happens, learn from our mistakes and from colleagues. We explore not only new destinations but also new ways to work and adapt to everything that’s happening around us in this fast-paced world.

If you are someone who pays attention to detail and you are self-organized, can work independently and know how to work with Excel then you’ll love it here. We have flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from home. We have Stebby to support our health and activities and our office is cool and is in a good location in Kadriorg.

Flight Operations Manager

Tõnis Metsar

Hi! My name is Tõnis and currently, I’m a Flight Operations Manager in Hurtigruten. I started in 2009 as an outsourced employee When Hurtigruten Estonia was founded, I got an offer to join. As I loved my job and the amazing trips we offer, this was an easy decision.

I’ve moved between different flight team positions over the years. There isn’t one typical workday. Every day in the travel industry and flight department can be a surprise. I love that we can fulfil customers’ dreams and make them happen in the best possible ways. I appreciate most that work is always varied, never dull, and nice puzzles are the best challenges.

I have an incredible team. I enjoy the advice we share amongst ourselves, growing and facing new challenges together. While working in Hurtigruten, there have been many memorable stories. But one of the good ones was years ago when a colleague wondered how it is possible that a plane leaves from Helsinki at 07:45 and arrives at Arlanda at 07:45, it’s supposed to be a one-hour flight, but it looks like time travel.

If you are always ready to develop further, a good listener, flexible, with high-stress tolerance, and able to multitask – Hurtigruten is the right place for you.

Guests Feedback Specialist

Christiane H.L. Ernits

Hello! I’m Christiane and I’ve been with Hurtigruten Estonia for nearly 15 years. Growing up in northern Germany, I had always been fascinated by the dream voyages Hurtigruten offers, so joining the company was a natural decision for me.

Currently, I’m part of the Service Recovery Team, where I handle complaints from our German guests. The diversity of requests I receive, ranging from simple issues to complex problems, makes my job interesting and challenging every day.

I enjoy arriving at the office early in the morning when it’s quiet, as it allows me to focus on my tasks. There’s a great sense of satisfaction in resolving cases and making our guests feel confident about traveling with Hurtigruten again. Over the years, I’ve learned to manage my time effectively and stay updated with the latest tools and programs used in our Service Center, which has helped me maintain my language skills and grow professionally.

Even though my team is based in Hamburg and I’m in Tallinn, we maintain a strong connection through daily calls. While we don’t often get to meet in person, the remote collaboration works well for us, and I value the time we spend working together.

Working at Hurtigruten Estonia is something I highly recommend. The company truly cares for its employees and offers unique opportunities, such as traveling on Hurtigruten ships. I appreciate the flexibility in work hours, the option to work from home, and the excellent benefits, including sports facilities, free coffee, a seaside office location, and extra insurance that covers medical expenses.

What makes me smile? When things go well, when I see something beautiful, and even when I realize I’ve done something silly. My positive outlook and dedication to my work make my time at Hurtigruten Estonia truly fulfilling.

Kristi Kaarlop

Hello! I’m Kristi and I’ve been part of the Hurtigruten Estonia team for 2.5 years. My journey with Hurtigruten began when I was drawn to the company’s strong values, particularly its commitment to sustainability, which is something I am deeply passionate about.

What I love most about my work is the constant challenge and the dynamic environment. Things are always changing, and I thrive on figuring out how to handle and complete various tasks. Our team handles a wide array of responsibilities, and I enjoy the puzzle-like aspect of ensuring everything gets done. Working with great people and coming up with improvised procedures keeps me motivated and excited to come to work every day.

A typical workday for me involves checking queues to ensure all volumes are covered and making adjustments to the plan as needed. Working at Hurtigruten Estonia has taught me a lot about how things are managed in a large international company with operations in multiple countries.

I have a strong connection with my team, which is incredibly diverse and international. We’ve done various workshops and team events to strengthen our bond. For instance, last year, we had a picnic and learned how to make and bake kringle, and this year, we enjoyed a guided zoo tour together.

I would highly recommend working at Hurtigruten Estonia. The people here are fantastic, creating a positive work environment. The company’s practice of promoting from within and the additional vacation days are significant perks. The benefits I appreciate most include the flexible starting time and the opportunity to work on a hybrid schedule when needed. These perks help me maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The slogan “Explore with us” resonates deeply with me. It’s not just about traveling to incredible destinations and exploring the wonders of nature. It also reflects our approach to daily work. We continuously explore ways to improve processes, cooperation, and communication, which helps the company grow and innovate. We never settle for the status quo; instead, we explore new paths and opportunities.
